Whiskey tasting

Or Whiskey if you prefer…I am not an expert when it comes to whiskey but I do enjoy a good whiskey now and then.

I recently tried two Scotch whiskies, The Glenlivet Founders Reserve and Glenfiddich 15 year old.

First I tried the Glenfiddich 15 year old a few different ways.  First in a chilled glass with no ice. Then in a non-chilled glass with a few drops (literally a few drops, not a lot) of water no ice. Then tried it with ice. I preferred this whiskey with a few drops of water with or without ice. Adding a few drops of water opens up the subtle flavors in the whiskey and tones down any harshness you might get from the alcohol. It has a nice deep smooth taste. Mellow on the tongue. A really nice drink.

The next night I tried The Glenlivet Founders Reserve. I tried this one “neat” no ice no water. Compared to the Glenfiddich this whiskey is a bit stronger than the 15 year old Glenfiddich. I again added a few drops of water and that smoothed it out nicely. Brought out some more of the subtle flavors and opens it up nicely. Added an ice cube. Mellowed it out a little bit more. Cooling it down on a hot night worked well. Nice enjoyable drink.

Both are a nice drink. The Glenlivet is a bit stronger in taste but again both are a nice drink.
